Clessie Clayton Thomas, 96 years old formerly of Oxford, N.C. passed away December 3, 2016 at Mary Washington Hospice in Fredericksburg, Virginia

A native of Person county, she was the widow of Wayne Hampton Thomas and the daughter of the late Jonathan and Nan Clayton. Clessie was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and retired from the Dress Factory and Bowling’s General Store.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Rev. Keith Williams. Burial will be at Person Memorial Cemetery in Roxboro, North Carolina. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 12:30 – 1:45 P.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Tracy and son-in-law Jack Tracy of Fredericksburg, Virginia, granddaughter, Lisa Tracy of Alexandria, Virginia, nephew, Sheldon Clayton and wife Julie of Martin, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by brothers, Thelbert, Mooney, Kelly and Odie Clayton; nieces, Joyce Clayton and Janice Clayton; nephews, Thelbert Mitchell Clayton and Randall Clayton.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1171 US Highway 158, Oxford, N.C. 27565 or to the charity of your choice.

mrs. Thomas was a sweet and loving lady. she will be missed. I remember her working at Bowlings. she will be forever in my heart. I used to tell her to be careful driving back to oxford. she was amazing. my sympathies to all her family.

I will always remember Clessie for way the she treated everyone with warmth and kindness. She went out of her way to make you feel special. Her passing is a loss for us all.

Mrs. Thomas was a sweetheart! Fond memory of the tablecloth she did for Lisa's law school graduation celebration. But most of all, I'll always remember her warm, quiet, melodic southern chuckle! Love and prayers.
